Life Story for James Richard Darrow

James Richard Darrow
James Richard Darrow passed into rest on Oct. 18, 2017. He was born in Houston, Texas, in 1973, the son of Richard H. and Carol (Cooke) Darrow and the brother of Jeff Darrow. He grew up on a farm in Minnesota and in the suburbs of Chandler, Arizona. He moved with his family to Colorado where he thrived.

James saw Star Wars when he was four years old and it shaped his life forever. He owned eight sets of Star Wars movies, replicas of the Millennium Falcon, the At-At, and engineering books of Star Wars aircraft.

After we came to Denver in 1995, he worked at Dave & Buster’s, Share Colorado, Liberty Tax, and finally King Soopers. He loved all his jobs and was profiled by the Denver Post as “the happy warrior” when he was a street corner sign waver for Liberty Tax. James told the interviewer, “The job is enjoyable and something of an art. You have to know the pattern of traffic, know which hand to wave, and you have to move. That’s your job – to attract people to the business you are working for.” The Liberty Tax office manager said, “We ask everyone why they chose us. Sixty percent of the time it’s because of James.”

James was proud to be a member of the Click Team at King Soopers. He got up every morning at 3 am to report to work for the 5 am shift. He loved that shift and was never late. He never let the team down.

Everywhere he went he made lifelong friends. Glenn and the gang were his close friends in the Chandler Band where James played trumpet. James met Jason when he first came to Denver. He played Magic, the Gathering for years, first at Mile High Comics and then at Advantage Games. He went to Rockies baseball games and was even willing to sit in the high bleachers.

James was an avid Colorado Avalanche fan and could quote the scores of every game when they won the Stanley Cup. He was new to Denver and so were they. He held on to his loyalty to the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Twins and added the Colorado Rockies to his must-watch favorites.

He joined Magic, the Gathering and took up Dungeons & Dragons but never let go of his Star Wars heritage. We hope you will always remember James. The Force was strong in this One.
