Obituary for Hermes Dean Curry

Hermes Dean Curry, fondly known as “Dean” by many, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018, after several weeks of hospice in his home, surrounded by friends and family in Broomfield, CO. He follows his loving wife, Viola (Vi) Curry, who passed unexpectedly on July 25, 2017. Dean is remembered with love as a quiet and often surprisingly silly father to Dean Curry and his wife Terri, and David Curry and his wife Cindy. He is also the cherished grandfather of Heather Scott and her husband Nicholas, Mary Wilkie and her partner Chris Little, and his great-grandchildren Joseph and Keegan Wilkie.

Dean was born in Polk, MN in 1935 and married Vi in 1959. Dean was an army veteran stationed in Japan and South Korea during the Korean War. After completing his military service, he worked for the railroad as a telegraph operator. Dean and Vi moved with young sons Dean and David to their Broomfield home in 1973 where he was proud to oversee the opening of a new JC Penney shoe department. He always enjoyed a good joke and often dressed up in crazy costumes when his boys were young. Dean had an active social life and enjoyed gathering with friends throughout his life. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the VFW, and American Legion and took pride in keeping the Broomfield Eagles’ club clean. Dean was an avid Vikings fan and loved getting together for football games to razz his sons and heckle the Broncos. He also enjoyed heading up to Black Hawk and faithful played the same lotto numbers every week for most of his life. Dean enjoyed gathering for all manner of family dinners and celebrations and his family remembers him as an uncanny card player who loved fooling everyone with his poker face before pulling constant wins out of nowhere.

A funeral service is scheduled for 9:30am on January 19, 2018 at Nativity of our Lord with a viewing at 4:30pm on January 18 at Rundus Funeral Home. Additional details can be found online at www.Rundus.com. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dean’s life.
