Obituary for
Raymond Phillips
Raymond Curtis Phillips, of Broomfield, passed away on July 19, 2018 at his home.
Ray was born on April 9, 1935 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lucille Phillips.
Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diane (Hertneky) Phillips; daughter Karen; son Jerry; daughter-in-law Stacie; granddaughter Jadyn; grandsons Michael, Joseph, and Matthew; and great-grandson Max.
Ray was raised in Colorado Springs, graduating from Colorado Springs High School. He attended the University of Colorado, Boulder where he graduated with a degree in Music Education. It was in the College of Music at CU, where he met Diane. They married shortly after graduating college in 1957.
For the majority of Ray’s teaching career, he taught band and orchestra to elementary students in Denver Public Schools.
After retiring from teaching in 1991, Ray and Diane volunteered with Rocky Mountain National Park. They interacted with park visitors – explaining the history and features of the park and its wildlife – for over 25 years.
For most of his life, Ray enjoyed gardening and attending CU football games – both in Boulder and at bowl games.
Ray was honored to be a member of The Christian Church of Broomfield until his passing. His celebration of life will be held at The Christian Church of Broomfield on Wednesday, July 25th at 11:00 AM.
At a later date, Ray will be interred at Broomfield County Commons Cemetery.
