It is so difficult to adequately express the respect and admiration and the sadness we feel at John's passing. He was intelligent, generous, and inspiring. As one of the countless folks he mentored, I will always appreciate his special ability to connect and to make all of us feel important and energized. John never took himself too seriously, never reveled in his accomplishments, and never saw himself as greater than others. All of us who had the privilege to know him are better because of him.
